This handmade camellia brooch interprets that familiar botanical form through an unusually restrained palette of smoky gray, charcoal, and soft silver-gray.

Rather than recreating the flower in its traditional red or pink tones, the design explores what remains when color becomes quieter: the curve of each petal, the depth created between overlapping layers, and the subtle movement of light across the silk surface.

The largest blossom forms the visual center of the composition, surrounded by smaller flowers, unopened buds, and softly shaped leaves. Together they create the impression of a camellia branch captured somewhere between budding and full bloom.

Each flower is created primarily from 100% silk thread, using techniques inspired by traditional Ronghua craft. Fine silk fibers are carefully prepared and shaped into individual petals before being assembled layer by layer.

The petals are not completely flat or mechanically uniform. Their edges gently curl, fold, and turn in different directions, allowing shadows to form naturally between the layers and giving each blossom its sculptural depth.

The muted gray palette brings particular attention to the natural sheen of silk. Depending on the light, certain edges appear almost silver, while the deeper folds shift toward charcoal and soft black.
